Vietnamese casinos exclusively for foreigners

Many casinos in Vietnam have reportedly lobbied local authorities for tickets for local gamblers to fill a lack of business due to inbound restrictions on foreign visitors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

It did not cite sources of information, according to local news outlet VnExpress.

Currently, only two casino projects in Vietnam can accommodate economically qualified locals under a pilot scheme run by the national government.

One is Corona Resort and Casino on the southern island of Phu Quoc. The other will be on Bandon in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Places that are currently only allowed to foreign gamblers but are said to be lobbying for the relaxation of the rules amid COVID-19 include "facilities at major travel destinations such as Guangnam and Baria Vungtau," VnExpress reported.

In recent years, a number of modern casino resorts have been developed in Vietnam that rely on foreign gamblers.

They include Hoiana, invested by Hong Kong-listed Suncity Group Holdings Ltd, and Grand Ho Tram Stripe, a mixed-use development including a foreigner-only casino.
